The rehabilitation of the road from the port of Morebaya to the town of Maférinya has been completed with the support of the WCS
September 26, 2020, Conakry, Guinea – The rehabilitation of the road from the port of Morebaya to the town of Maférinya, financed by the Winning Consortium Simandou, officially ended today. This 18 km long road is the main artery connecting the villages located between these two points. The Winning Simandou Consortium has invested over US$300,000 in labour, equipment and backfill materials. Thus nearly 10,000 cubic meters of rock and gravel were needed to pave this road.
Before the rehabilitation, the condition of the pavement was very bad. Dug 70% of potholes, the road remained muddy and littered with large puddles of water. It took an hour and a half to go from the port of Morebaya to the town of Maferinya. Thanks to the work carried out, the travel time has been reduced to 30 minutes, which has greatly facilitated the daily life of local residents, and has provided support for local economic development in terms of infrastructure.
Supporting sustainable community development has always been a priority objective of the Consortium’s community work plan.
